What is about Melesta’s time management games that are so frustrating? Did their game testers finish levels at super fast speeds, therefore all those other casual gamers should, too? If it were not for the clock, this game might not have been so testing. While the concept is sound, and actually should be practiced IRL, as a casual game, it needed more of something, and that was time.
The graphics were pretty much the standard you find in most building games, and patterns were, too. Build this little house, upgrade it three times, sell it or destroy it, put down something bigger and better, and keep up the surrounding areas with green places, like parks, and keep things running energy efficient, and this time, you go as energy efficient as possible since this is a Green City. If is did not take so long to get the funds from your peeps to add more crews and buy properties, it could be a very fun place, too. Melesta, you really need to slow those clocks down, then the rest of us might be able to catch up with you guys over there. You gave us quite a good ride with Jo’s Organic Coffee, so maybe you will get away from the Farm Frenzy craziness and listen to your players. After all, if it were not for them, you would not still be here.

When it came to this time management game, I think I would have rather spent an hour actually watching a movie than playing this game. It had all the classic patterns, moving your patron peeps around to different spots, the ticket sales, to concessions for pizza and popcorn, then to the ushers, but having to escort them to the washrooms was a bit much. The arcade was a bit sad, and playing retro arcade games to earn extra upgrade cash was lame.

This cartoony little casual game takes the best from the Baby Boom to now in quick build design as we help out Mark Retro build his construction company over the years. We have all kinds of customers through the decades, greasers, hippies, Stellas and Guidos, punkers, latte-sipping grungers and so on. Each decade starts with a highlight of the times, how much prices are for basic necessities, and the big events of the times. We even have some foreign investors. A successful sumo wrestler, and an Aussie survivalist deciding to settle down after walkabout.

This grid of gems gets about as basic as it can. It can also be one very frustrating game, because, unless you establish a pattern, you will never seem to get past level 15. Your little “customers”, which are represented by emotional spheres with faces on them, are about the least patient things to come into a casual game, and you have to appease them with fancy coffee, candy, or free gifts. You buy these by using tokens, and you tend to end up playing the game not to match up the gems to get the various pendants, pins, rings and such that the little spheres are wanting, but to gain tokens to keep these things happy. This game does have extremely clear graphics, but the Regency-era string quartet music in the background does not really keep you going. You might find yourself addicted to Gem Shop, because there is an online ratings list, and you’ll be wanting to check your rank. Also, you might find yourself wanting to break that level 15 ceiling. The secret? Do you best to hold back all your cash and tokens from the first few levels so that you can get the high end items in your inventory. Once that is done, when one of those little spheres asks for a big bit of bling, you’ll have it ready, and will have some leftover cash and some tokens to get those gifts to keep the spheres happy.
